Entry  On 5th killed at the battle of Inkermann and whilst gallantly leading his men into action Major T N Dalton of the 49th Regt aged 35, son of John Dalton Esq, of Sleningford Park, Ripon, YK, much loved and deeply lamented, Major Dalton served with the 61st in the Punjaub Campaign of 1848-49 and was present at the passage of the Chenals, in the battle of Sadoolapore, Chillianwallah & Goozerat and with the field force in pursuit of the enemy to the Khyber Pass in March 1849 for which he obtained a medal and two clasps. He exchanged from this regt. into the 49th at the Depot in Cork in 1853 & has been present with their fortunes in the East ever since, having had his horse shot from under him whilst leading his men up the hill at the battle of the Alma and being also engaged in the affair at Balaklava of the 28th Oct.
