Entry  At Lucknow on 12 Oct 1857, J Bensley Thornhill Esq, Bengal C S of wounds received on the 26 Sept . He nobly headed a party to bring in the wounded that were left behind on the 25th Sept and received his death wound when taking the eldest son of Gen Sir Henry Havelock into a place of safety when he was wounded. see advert in hte Times 30 Jan page 10.
