DescriptionThe series L/F/8 consists of 20 boxes of contracts entered into by the East India Company / Secretary of State for India / Governor General in Council, with various individuals / companies in the years 1855 - 1946. The contracts with individuals relate to appointments made in the UK to the Indian Public Works Department, Military Works Services, Government Railways, Telegraph Department, Indo-European Telegraph Establishment, Persian Gulf Cable, and miscellaneous industrial enterprises. They almost always give the appointees home address in the UK the Majority of the company contracts are with Indian Railways Companies.

A list of uncovenanted Civil Servants working under contract to the EIC (before 1859) and the Secretary of State for India (after 1859). These persons were employed for certain duties such as those in Civil Engineering, Telegraph duties, and Indian State Railways.
