CommentThe certificates are divided into 6 parts in number order. To locate an individual name the alphabetical index at the front of part 1 will be required. The Part number needs to be specified when ordering. The part numbers are located in the A-Z index, with reference number is enclosed in () usually at the top right of the Certificate.

This varied accumulation represents the surviving records of the East India Companys management of its commercial shipping activity. The series L/MAR/C/669 and 670 deal with Certificates of Age, which were generally in the form of Extracts of Birth/Baptism from Parish Registers, Sworn Affidavits, Letters from Family and Relatives and Letters from ship Commanders.
