Service  Colonel Stewart served against the Hill Tribes on the Peshawur Frontier, in 54, 55, Mentioned in Sir Sydney Cottons Despatch. Commanded the Volunteers serving in the Allyghur District, in May and June 57. All communication with the Upper Provinces having been cut off, volunteered to carry Despatches from the Government, North-West Provinces, to the Officer Commanding the Troops at Delhi. On arriving in Camp in June 57, was appointed Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General of the Field Force, and served in that capacity throughout the siege. Received the thanks of the Provincial Commander-in-Chief.Mentioned in General "Wilsons Despatches. Promoted to Brevet-Major for services at Delhi. Medal and Clasp. Served at the siege and capture of Lucknow as Assistant Adjutant-General of the Army, and was promoted to Brevet-Lieutenant-Colonel for services on that occasion. Clasp for iMeknow. Served throughout the operations in Rohilcund, in 58, as Assistant Adjutant-General of the Army. Mentioned in the Commander-in-Chiefs Despatches.
