Service  Major Shakespear was present at the siege and capture of the Fort and Town of Baloorgee, in the Deccan, in September 41; and Adjutant of the 2nd Nizams Cavalry during the operations of the Field Force in that district; commanded the Detachment of 3rd Nizams Cavalry employed in the Golconda zemindary, February, March, and April 48; commanded the 3rd Nizams Cavalry and the Detachment that captured the Insurgent Sikhs at Homdah, near Hingolee, January 51; commanded the 5th Nizams Cavalry and led the 30 dismounted Troopers of that Regiment, who carried by assault the stockaded village of Eshwuntpoora or Devulgaon, near Aurungabad, 22nd September 53, severely wounded; commanded the Field Force composed of Nagpore Irregular Troops employed in the Eastern Frontier of the Raepore District and Western Frontier of the Sumbulpore District, in January, February, and March 58; forced the Singora Pass and Niswighat, defended by a body of the Sumbulpore rebels, 19th January 58; commanded the Field Force composed of Nagpore Irregular Troops employed in the Chanda zemindaries, east of the Wynegunga and Prechestur Rivers, May and June 58. Medal.
