Service  Lieutenant Sewell served throughout the Mutiny, 57, 58. Present at the action of Chinhut (horse shot under him). Present throughout the siege of Lucknow, from 30th June to 25th November 57. Present at the battle of Cawnpore and defeat of the Gwalior Troops, 6th December 57, under Lord Clyde. Present at the action of Kala Nuddee, and occupation of Futtehghur, January 58. Present throughout the siege and capture of Lucknow, March 58, under Lord Clyde. Medal and 2 Clasps, and one years extra service. Mentioned in the Lucknow Despatches of Brigadier Inglis. Established an Enfleld Cartridge manufactory during the siege of Lucknow, and received the special thanks of Sir J. Outram and Sir Henry Havelock. Received the thanks of the Governor-General.
