Joined Havelocks Force, September 57, and was appointed Assistant Field Engineer, and in that capacity accompanied the Force from Cawnpore in September, for the 1st relief of Lucknow. Entered the Residency on 25th September, accompanied the expedition party at the assault and capture of the Kings stables, 16th November. Remained in the Residency during its investiture by the rebel troops, until finally relieved by the Army under Lord Clyde. Was appointed Brigade Major of Engineers to the Force at Alum Bagh, under Sir J. Outram. Was present at the action of " Gailee" and also at the repulses of the numerous attacks, and in the operations ending in the final capture of Lucknow. Brevet of Major. Medal and 2 Clasps. |
