Service  Captain Need served as Adjutant of the 14th Irregular Cavalry throughout the Punjab Campaign, also when the Regiment surprised the Fort of Govindghur. Commanded a Squadron under Sir J. Lawrence, Bart., at the disarming of the Towns of Sulliana and Kana Kutch, in the Punjab. Served throughout the Rohilcund Campaign, 58, as a Volunteer, including the actions of Bagawalla and Nageena (in the latter action charger wounded by sabre cut); relief of Moradabad, action on the Dojura, assault and capture of Bareilly, attack and bombardment of Shahjehanpore, and relief of the Garrison, and the subsequent affairs of the 15th and 18th May, on the latter occasion commanded De-Kantzows Horse. Medal.
