Service  Major Murray served during the Punjab Campaign, 48, 49. Medal. Served as a Trooper at the battle of Shahgunge, 5th July 57. As a Volunteer commanded Rajah Gobind Singhs Jat Horse at the battle of Allyghur, on the 24th August. Mentioned in the Despatches of Major Montgomery and Mr. A. H. Cocks, Special Commissioner, for conspicuous gallantry, &c., and received the public recognition of the Governor-General for eminent service. (Wounded.) (Charger wounded.) Served as a Volunteer at the battle of Agra, 10th October 57. Employed in November and December in raising the Jat Horse, and in restoring order in the Allyghur and Etah Districts. Commanded at the Cavalry engagements at Kutchla Ghaut, and defeated, with 200 Sabres of Jat Horse, 600 old Irregular Cavalry, and held the Rohilcund rebel army in check till the arrival of General Pennys Force, 11th March 58. Received the thanks of the Governor-General. With the Jat Horse, in April, May, and June, guarded successfully the Ghauts on the Ganges in the Allyghur and Etah Districts, against the Rohilcund rebels. Commanded the Regiment with the Allyghur Column under Brigadier Kelly, throughout the 2nd Oude Campaign, and the operations on the Nepal Frontier. Present at the engagement near Bootwul, 25th March 59. Received the thanks of Government. At the subsequent attack of the rebels in the Hills. Received the thanks of Government, 59. Defeated the Nusseerabad Brigade of rebels at Durriahpore, Goruckpore District. Highly commended and brought to the notice of the Commander-in-Chief by Brigadier Rowcroft, and received the thanks of Government. Commanded a Column in the final operations on the Nepal Frontier, under Brigadier Holdich, in November and December 59. Received the thanks of the Commander-in-Chief, 16th January 60. Medal.
