Service  Lieutenant Mathias served during the whole of the Sonthal Campaign in 55 56: was 2nd in Command of the Rewah and Nagode Rajahs Troops, at the opening of the Deccan Road, 57, 58, during which operations the Forts of Kunchunpore Joorah, Myhere City and Fort, Jokye, Kunnwarrah, Bejeeragooghur, and 42 pieces of ordnance were taken. (Slightly wounded.) Was 2nd in Command of the Rewah Contingent at the storming of the enemys position on the Punwarrah Heights, taking all the enemys guns, killing their leaders, and entirely dispersing their Force. Medal.    
Remarks  (Has received a first class certificate from the School of Musketry at Umballa.)
