| Surname | MacKenzie | | First Name(s) | A M | | Rank | Captain | | Regiment | late 56th Native Infantry | | Commissions | Ensign, 9 Dec 42 / Lieut, 1 Dec 46 / Bt-Captain, 9 Dec 57 / Captain, 18 Feb 61 | | Service | Captain Mackenzie served against the Insurgents in Bundlecund, 43, 44. He raised the new 8th Irregular Cavalry (now 6th Bengal Cavalry), and served in Oude throughout the siege and capture of Lucknow. Commanded a portion of his Regiment on the 5th April 58, on which occasion he charged the rebels who had to evacuate the Fort, and after a desperate resistance, cut up the rebel leader, Sultah Sing, and the whole of his Body Guard, upwards of one-fourth of his own men being killed or wounded, including his own charger wounded. Medal and Clasp. |
