Service  Lieutenant Forbes served during the Sonthal Campaign, 56. Served during the Mutinies, 57, 58. Medal. Commanded the Etawah Yeomanry Levy and Etawah Military Police Battalion at the action of Hurchundpore, the taking of the Fort of Burreh, in the Jumna River, and six other minor affairs. Received thanks of the Government of India, 22nd December 58. Received high commendations of the Governor-General for the operations against Fort Burreh. Recorded for promotion for Brevet-Majority for services during the Mutinies, as soon as he attains the rank of Captain.
