Service  Brevet-Surgeon Fayrer served with the Burmese Field Force during the Burmese War. In Medical Charge of two Companies of H. M.s 18th Royal Irish Regiment under the Command of Woodright, at the destruction of the stockades on the Rangoon River, previous to the capture of Rangoon, in April 52. Landed at Rangoon in charge of the Field Hospital and continued in that duty throughout the capture of the city stockades, pagoda, and other defences, and also the subsequent operations in the vicinity. Continued to serve in this capacity, and from the 10th December 52 was also officiating as Medical Store­keeper to the Bengal Division of the Army of Burmah, up to August 53, when he was removed to Lucknow. Medal and Clasp. Served throughout the siege of Lucknow and the trouble in Oude preceding it. Was a Member of the Council of War assembled by Sir H. Lawrence to decide whether to hold or abandon the Residency. Present at Cawnpore when it was relieved by the Commander-in-Chief. Was mentioned in Sir J. Inglis Despatch of 26th September 57, and received the thanks of Government. Was also included among the Medical Staff mentioned by Sir J. Outram, in his Despatch of 25th. November 57. Medal and Clasp. One years extra service and Brevet-Surgeon.
