Service  Lieutenant Butler served during the Indian Campaign of '57, '58. Present with his Regiment, from 10th June '57, in all the engagements under the walls of Delhi, including the affair under Brigadier-General Nicholson, on 24th July '57. Present at the storm and capture of Delhi, 14th September '57. Served in the Columns under Brigadier Gerrard and Sir Thomas Seaton, including the actions of Gungeeree, 14th December'57; Puttiallee, 17th December '57; and Mynpooree, 27th December '57, en route to Futtyghur. Present at the storm and capture of Lucknow, under Lord Clyde, and subsequent operations in Oude, under Sir Hope Grant, wounded slightly. Medal and 2 Clasps, and Victoria Cross. Mentioned in Despatch of Sir J. Outram, 8th March 1858. (Received 1st Class Certificate from Hythe.)
