Service  Colonel Butler served with the late 27th Native Infantry at Chittagong, at the commencement of the first Burmese War, '23, '24. Served under Sir Hugh Wheeler in '48, '49, and commanded the 3rd Native Infantry at the taking of the Fort of "Rungul Munzul" and " Killalwalla," and commanded the Main Column at the taking of the heights of Dulla. Medal. (Mentioned in Despatch.) Commanded a Detachment in '49, in disarming the Sikh population in the Baree Doab, in the Punjab. Commanded a Field Force under Colonel Mackeson, in HuzaraÅ�the Black MountainÅ�and against the fanatics of Sattana, on the Indus. Received the thanks of the Governor-General in Council.
