Service  Lieutenant Buckley was present at the mutiny of the Troops on the 11th May 1857, at Delhi. Was one of the nine (and is now the only survivor) of those who defended and blew up the magazine on that occasion. Was severely wounded in six places. After the explosion of the magazine, he swam the Jumna with Mrs. Roberts and her son, and saved their lives at the risk of his own. Was present with General Sir A. Wilson's Force at the Hindun; at the battle of the 9th June, and afterwards at the siege of Delhi. Medal and Clasps. V. C. and Lieutenant on the Veteran Establishment. Has nearly completed 30 years' active service. "Date of act of bravery, 11th May 1857. For gallant conduct in the defence of the magazine at Delhi, on the 11th May 1857."
