Served on the Derajat Frontier since '50 (included). Engaged in various minor skirmishes with the Hill Tribes. The Oomerzaie Wuzeeree Expedition, '52. Bozdar Expedition, '57. Narinzee (Eusufzaie), July and August '57. Mentioned in Despatch. At the siege and capture of Lucknow, March '58. Mentioned in Despatch. Medal and Clasp. Promoted to Brevet-Majority for service at Lucknow. With Sir J. Hope Grant's Column at the action of Koorsee; brought to notice in the Despatch of the Major-General, April '58. Served with Brigadier-General Sir R. Walpole's Column at the actions of Rooyah and Alleegunge. Mentioned in the Despatch of that Officer, May '58. Served with the Army under Lord Clyde, at the capture of Bareilly. Mentioned in Despatch. Commanded a detached Field Force at the action of Mohunpore, near Bareilly, June 1858. Commanded a Field Force of Cavalry and Infantry in the attack and defeat of the enemy at Seupoorah, near Peeleebheet, on 30th August '58, and capture of their guns and camp. Wounded dangerously in two places. Left arm amputed. Received the thanks of the Commander-in-Chief, and of Government, October '58. Promoted by Brevet to Lieutenant-Colonel. Received the Military Order of the Bath and the Victoria Cross.
