Acted as Interpreter to a Detachment of the 5th Fusiliers in the neighborhood of Arrah during the early part of 1857. Served with Her Majesty's 64th Regiment at the besiege of Cawnpore by the Gwalior Contingent, and at their subsequent defeat by Sir Colin Campbell on the 6th December 1857, Was present with the 64th on the 28th November during a charge on a battery of the enemy's guns, when a great many Officers were left killed, and being carried away from the vicinity of the guns, the only body rescued was that of Brigadier Wilson, Commanding. Was present at the battle of Kala-Nuddee under Sir Colin Campbell. Medal, Has furnished certificates of qualification in surveying. |
