The Bombay Army was to cross the river at night to attack the south side of the Fort. The troops under the command of Major Dalrymple. A detachment of three battalion company's of the 71st Regiment and four sepoy company's of the 13th Regiment under the command of Captain James Robertson of the 71st Regiment moved to the camp of the enemy. On the 19th, a ford having been discovered about three miles above the western angle of the Fort, the Bombay Army began to cross at eight o'clock in the morning.
