Major Sterling is President, having tried Lieutenant George Douglas of His Majesty's 75th Regiment, confined for the wilful murder of Lieutenant James Brugh of the same Regiment. Having not found sufficient proof from the evidence to substantiate the charge, they acquit him of that charge but he is guilty of taking away the life of Lieutenant James Brugh by the prisoner's outrageous and unjustifiable conduct. Sentence is to be Lieutenant George Douglas be cashiered from His Majesty's Service and he is to be imprisoned in any of His Majesty's Gaols either in India or Europe at the discretion of the Commander in Chief for a space of two years. Signed by William Williamson, Judge Advocate, and Major M P Sterling, President. The Commander in Chief approves the sentence and dissolves the Court. Lieutenant Colonel Hartley will be pleased to order the European part of the Reserve under arms this evening at five o'clock. The Judge Advocate will be directed in front of the Colours of the 75th Regiment to read the sentence to the prisoner and Lieutenant Colonel Hartley will order the Provost Martial to break his sword and cut his sash to pieces.
