Inscription  To the Glory of God and the memory of Colonel John George Knowles, C.I.E., V.D., who died at Jellalpore, on 28th February 1919. -- Erected by members of the 2nd Surma Valley Light Horse, which he commanded for nine years, and a number of old friends as a testimony of their admiration and affection.
