This Station was garrisoned by the 28th Native Infantry, which broke out on Sunday, May 31, while the residents were in church, where most of them were cruelly murdered. Some few escaped to Mohumdee, only to fall victims a few days later on to the cruelty and treachery of the mutineers. Smith tried to escape through the town, and concealed himself for a time in the Kotwali, but was discovered and murdered there. |
