When the detachment of Sepoys mutinied on May 19, the Officers and non-combatants made for Agra. But Power resolved if possible to retain his district, as the mutineers had gone to join their companions at Allygarh, and he had only the villagers to deal with. Assisted by his brother, Lieutenant De Kantzow, Doctor Watson and six sergeants and clerks he remained till June 29. Then the mob in the town rose, the jail was broken open, and the whole party were forced to retire to Agra.
