Did excellent service in collecting supplies for the Dehli army, his efforts being supported by the loyal Chiefs of the Sikh Protected States, who also aided in keeping the communications open. So splendidly was this work done that never was an attempt made to intercept the supplies of stores and ammunition. To George Barnes, cordially aided by Ricketts, of Loodiana fame, was due the preservation of peace in these districts, a matter of vital importance. As an example of the work done, 2000 camels, 2000 men, and 500 carts were collected for transport of stores and supplies in one week. |
