Summary Remarks  The walls of Arcot were breached in two places by Hyder Ali's Army. Captain Dupont ordered a retreat into the citadel, which was affected without loss. During the night the whole of the Nabob's Sepoys deserted, which was the sole cause of giving it up. Captain Prendergast who lost an arm during the siege at Arcot arrived with the rest of the Officers and 130 Europeans at Madras the 8th ult.
