| Surname | Hobart | | Rank | Lord | | Occupation or Status | Governor General | | Location | Madras | | Summary Remarks | Extract of a letter from Madras, February 19th. A point of some importance to Commanders of Indiamen was settled here yesterday. Captain Price, of the Hawksbury, having disposed of his great Cabin in Bengal, built a large apartment forward abreast of the Capstern for the accommodation of the Military Officers, that were to go passengers from hence, on his ship. The Officers believed they had a right to the Captain's Great Cabin, and wrote to General Harris the Commander in Chief on the subject. General Harris sent a deputation to inspect the accommodation and he conferred with Lord Hobart and it was decided in favour of Captain Price that the new accommodation was excellent and the Officers should be sufficiently and properly accommodated there. The Commander has the same right to dispose of the Great Cabin as of his round House. | | Article Type | News Article | | Issue Number | Vol. XI, No. 526 | | Issue Day | 7 | | Issue Month | March | | Issue Year | 1798 |
