Full Entry  27 May 1798, G.C.G. Pitman, of the Engineers, sincerely regretted by a large circle of friends, to whom his aimiable qualities and liberal accomplishments were well know and adequately estimated.. He fell prematurely, neither pressed with the weight of years, nor the accumulation of infirmities. The disorder which hastened on his dissolution, is said to have been increased by an excessive sensibility, of which we lament the effect, though we cannot but revere the cause. His funeral was attended by Gen. Ross, Col. Gent, and several officers of the corps to which he belonged, and a number of private friends.
