| Surname | Dyce | | First Names | G A D | | Place | Calcutta | | Year | 1838 | | Month | April | | Day | 4 | | Entry | DYCE At Calcutta, of cholera, Colonel G A D Dyce. We have to announce the death this day (says the Englishman, April 5th) of Colonel Dyce, the father of Mr Dyce Sombre. Thursday April 5th Colonel Dyce, the father of Mr Dyce Sombre, died last night of cholera. The career of this gentleman offers another among the many instances of men raising themselves from a humble sphere to one of comparative rank and influence, by dint of enterprize and a judicious selection of opportunities for advancement in the world. Reared in the Orphan School, Kidderpore, Mr Dyce was at an early period of the present century bound apprentice to a trading establishment at Dinapore, on the dissolution of which he turned his steps to the Upper Provinces, and finally became a favourite with the late Begum of Sirdanah, to one of whose adopted daughters he was married. | | Edition Year | 1838 | | Edition Date | Vol II, No VII, July 1838 |
