Inscription  Sacred to the memory of Lieutenant Henry Edmund Fryer 35th Royal Sussex Regiment born at Catstock Gloucester 14 April 1836 acidentally drowned on the morning of the 16rh Mach 1861 while bathing in a swimming bath atMeerut. Regretted by all who knew him. His amiable disposition and many good qualities much endeared him to his brother officers who have caused this tomb to be erected over his remains. ""In the midst of life we are in death.""
