Inscription  Beneath are deposited the mortal remains of Major General John Garstin, of the Corps of Engineers, who departed this life in the sixty-fourth year of his age, on the 16th February 1820, Having established to his own memory in an honorable reputation justly acquired by a long and meritorious discharge of every duty, a more commemorative Monument than this tablet, which the affection of his children have inscribed in remembrance of his worth and in testimony of their gratitude and deep affection. The deceased was an officer, brave, zealous and able; as a son, husband and father invariably kind and affectionate; as a man distinguished by inflexible integrity, and ever ready beneficience.
