Detail  [Pages 529-530. Of Silverton Hill, co. Lanark. Born 14 Dec. 1777, the son of Capt. John William Hamilton, Under-Secretary at War in Ireland, by Mary Anne, dau. of Richard St George, esq. of Kilrush, co. Kilkenny. He succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his grandfather, Lieut.-General Sir Robert Hamilton, the 4th Baronet. Entered the Bengal CS in 1793. Was Collector for Benares. Retired in 1833. He retired 14 Feb. 1800 Eliza Ducarel, youngest dau. of John Collie of Calcutta, MD, and by that lady, who died 11 Feb. 1841, he had 5 sons, including the now Sir Robert North Collie Hamilton, ""formerly assistant collector and magistrate of Benares, and has since been resident at the court of Tudore"
