Detail  [Pages 410-416. At his seat at Oaklands, near Portsmouth, aged 71. Eldest son of the Hon. George Napier, Colonel in the army, by his second marriage to Lady Sarah Lennox, 7th dau. of Charles, 2nd Duke of Richmond and Lennox. Born Westminster 10 Aug. 1782. In 1841 given command of the army in Bombay. Numerous details given on campaign in Scinde. In Oct. 1847 left for England because of the poor health of Lady Napier. Recalled in March 1849 because of disasters in the last Sikh war, but found on arrival in Bombay that his services were not needed. Instead, in his last two years in India carried out reforms in military administration]
