Eldest son of Grant Broughton, esq. by Phoebe Ann, dau. of John Rumball, esq. of Barnet, Herts. ""His father's eldest brother, William, was for many years Paymaster-General at Bombay, and his younger brother was the late Admiral James Broughton"".
