Transferred from Bengal to Madras, Sept. 1798. Fighting against Tippoo Sultan. Was briefly in command at Trincomalee, soon left for Bombay. As a Lieut.-General against great odds won Battle of Assaye, 1803 against the Mahrattas. Embarked for England, March 1805] |
