Detail  [Pages 618-619. At Swallowfield, Berkshire, aged 68. Eldest son of the Right Hon. Sir Henry Russell, created a baronet in 1812, the Chief Justice of Bengal by his 2nd wife Barbara, youngest dau. of Sir Charles Whitworth. He was born 27 May 1783. Writer, Bengal Establishment, 1798. Resident of Hyderabad, 1810. Frequently wrote to the Times on the affairs of India as ""Civis"". Succeeded to the baronetcy 18 Jan 1836 on the death of his father. Married 1st Madras 20 Oct 1808 Jane, 2nd dau. of John Cassamajor, Member of the Council there, who died on the 29 Dec. following and 2nd Marie Clotilde, dau. of Mons. B. Mottet, of Pondicherry, 3 sons & 3 daus., including his successor Sir Charles, born 1826, an officer in the Grenadier Guards]
