	Detail	[Pages 417-418. Aged 70. Native of Edinburgh, where his father was a wealthy merchant. Was influenced by the ""celebrated Andrew Fuller during a visit he made to Scotland he made on behalf of the newly formed Indian Missionary Society"". Stayed at Bristol with the family of Dr Ryland, President of the Baptist College, studying with the intention of going to India. He was disappointed when told that his constitution was unsuited to India. Returned to Edinburgh as a Baptist minister. ""On the return of Dr Marshman from India in 1816, he resided for upwards of a year with Mr Anderson"". They both went to Copenhagen where the King gave them a charter for their college at Serampore, a Danish settlement]
