Detail  [Pages 93-94. At Painsthorpe, aged 83. Entered the navy 1787 as captain's servant on the Vestal, 28, and accompanied the embassy to China. After moving with his captain, Richard Strachan, to the Phoenix, 36, he was present 19 Nov 1791 in an engagement off the Malabar Coast with La Resolue of 46 guns. He was for several months employed in boats in co-operating, up different rivers, in operations under Abercromby against Tippoo Saib. He returned to England in 1793. In the East Indies again from July 1819]
