Detail  [Planned, built and ran the astronomical and meteorological observatory which the Rajah of Travancore had founded. He was introduced to the Rajah's service in 1832. The Bombay Times is quoted as saying that in little over a year four of India's chief astronomers had died -- Mr Taylor of Madras died in March 1848, Mr Curnin, formerly of the Bombay observatory, in July, and Col. Wilcox, astronomer to the King of Oudh, in November]
