Ensign 1793. Served in the East Indies as aide-de-camp and military secretary to Major-Gen. Nicolls, until he joined as a volunteer the army under the Duke of Wellington. Was in the Mahratta war. Returned to Europe when promoted to Major in 1804. In Aug 1812 he was nominated Quartermaster-General in the East Indies, and repaired thither in January. Was in Nepaul war. In 1839 was made commander in chief in the East Indies, with the local rank of General. He married Anne, eldest dau. of Thomas Stanhope Badcock, esq. of Little Missenden Abbey, Bucks] |
