Son of the Rev. John Young, descended from the Youngs of Auldbar, Angus, by the youngest dau. of John M'Clintock, esq. of Trinta, co. Donegal. Served before Seringapatam, in the reduction of the Dutch settlements in Malabar, at the capture of Colombo, and in the Cingalese war. ""He had the merit of suggesting and organizing a most efficient plan for recruiting the army, a plan adopted by the government"". Retired in 1813. Elected a Director of the EIC in 1829. Married in Sept 1806 Lucy, 3rd dau. of Col. Charles Frederick, Bombay establishment, she died before him. 3 children including Charles Frederick, first of the China establishment, later of the Bengal CS, who died 18 March 1838] |
