Detail  [Pages 422-423. At his residence, Sherwood-lodge, Battersea, in his 83rd year. Born 9 Sept 1764, Jamaica, to Edward East esq. of that island. Called to the bar, Inner Temple, 1786. In 1813 appointed Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Judicature, Calcutta, and knighted. Interested in education for the natives and helped found the Hindoo College. On his departure he received a flattering address, and a subscription, by the native inhabitants, money used for a statue of him, now in the grand jury room of the Supreme Court. On his return to England made a baronet, 1823. He married 23 Dec 1786 Jane Isabella Hankey]
