Detail  [Pages 425-426. Officers slain in India. Second son of the late Col. Sale, EIC, by the dau. of Harry Brine, esq., of Buckden, Huntingtonshire. Born in 1782. At the age of 13 was an ensign in the 36th Foot, 1795. Was at the siege and storming of Seringapatam in 1799 and in other battles in India until at least 1809, and was at the taking of Rangoon in 1824. In 1838 commanded the 1st Bengal brigade in the advance into Afghanistan. Battles such as the defence of Jellalabad. Married in 1809 Florentia, dau. of George Wynch, esq., ""a lady whose name will be as long remembered as his own, in connection with the memorable retreat from Affghanistan""]
