Detail  [Pages 316-317. At Rockcliffe near Lymington, aged 61. Son of James Rivett, esq, EIC CS (who in 1801 assumed the name of Carnac) by a daughter of James Fisher, esq. of Yarmouth. He was a Major on the Madras Establishment and retired in 1822. He was elected a Director of the EIC in 1827 and was for some time the Chairman. In 1832 he was made Governor of Bombay, and in 1836 he became a Baronet. He married 3 June 1815 Anna Maria, eldest dau. of Wiliam Richards, esq. of Penglais, Cardiganshire, by whom he had issue and is succeeded by his son, now Sir John Carnac, born in 1818, a captain in the army, late in the 73rd regiment.
