Remarks  Forwards letter No 118 of 22 January 1872 from Civil Medical Officer Prome ascribing this melancholy event to remittent fever. 2. I consider it but right to mention also that in a demi official communication from Mr Elsner, the Officer in charge Prome Division, giving some details connected with Mr Blight's illness the fact is mentioned of the deceased gentleman having exhibited symptoms of mental aberration refusing food and leaving his quarters while apparently utterly unfit to take care of himself and further ejecting the medical officer from his room. 3. I would venture to solicit particular attention to the fact of his leaving his quarters while in a such a state as it would appear that the care, watching and restraint always so necessary in cases of this nature were in a measure if not altogether lost sight of in his case. 4. In conclusion I would beg to record the information of the Chief Commissioner that though but a short time in the Province, having arrived from India in March last, the deceased officer rendered himself of great service to this Department, and exhibited at all times great zeal in the performance of his duties. Mr Elsner under whose orders he was placed since November reports that he considers his death a great loss to the Department for in the short time he was employed in office work at Prome he displayed great zeal and ability which promised to render him a most valuable officer.
