Detail  Killed, at Gundamuck, where the last struggle took place with only twenty men and three or four officers alive, Lieut. Edw. Sandford Cumberland, son of the late Rear-Adm. Cumberland, grandson of the late Charles Pym Burt, esq., of St Croix and Albemarle-st., great-nephew of the late Lieut.-Gen. William Mathew Burt, Gov.-Gen. of the West India Islands. This gallant young officer, on leaving Tugdullock, tore one of the colours from its staff, and wrapped it round his body, but not being able to button his coat over them, was compelled to give them over to Serj. Cary, who was killed that night. Lieut. Soutre also tore down the other colour, and succeeded in concealing it, which saved his life, -- the enemy, supposing him to be some great person, seeing the bright colour, took him prisoner in the hope of ransom.
