Detail  [At his residence in Hampshire. Lieut., 1790. Commanded the Carysfort frigate in the East Indies, where he captured L'Alerte French corvette, 16 guns. On the 23 Aug 1800, in the Braave, he entered Batavia Roads and captured 5 Dutch armed vessels and destroyed numerous craft. Before this, he had intercepted La Surprise, French vessel of war, bound to Europe with two ambassadors from Tippoo Sultaun. He resigned his command due to ill health and, as a passenger on L'Imperieuse frigate, arrived in England in June 1802]
