Detail  [Pages 537-541. At Kingston House, Knightsbridge. Born Dublin 20 June 1760, the eldest child of Garrett 1st Earl of Mornington by the Hon. Anne Hill Trevor, eldest dau. of Arthur, 1st Viscount Dungannon. In July 1797 replaced Lord Cornwallis as Governor General of India. Following the fall of Seringapatam he, as Earl of Mornington, was made Marquess Wellesley. In 1805 at his own request he was recalled. He married 1st 29 Nov 1794 Hyacinthe Gabrielle, an opera singer. They separated very soon after marriage and she did not accompany him to India, and died in Nov 1816. He married 2nd 29 Oct 1825 Marianne, co heiress of Richard Caton of Maryland, America, and widow of Robert Patterson, esq. who survives him. No legal issue]
