Assassinated aged 48. Second son of Sir Francis Workman M'Naghten, Bt. of Bushmills House, co. Antrim, Judge of the Supreme Court at Calcutta, by Letitia, eldest dau. of the late Sir William Dunkin, of Clogher. At an early age he went to India with his father, on his being appointed in 1809 a judge of the supreme court at Madras. When his father moved to Calcutta in 1815 lived there for a while with his family. In 1823 he married Mrs M'Clintock, widow of Col. M'Clintock. He entered the EIC CS when young. In 1839 was appointed envoy to Shah Soojah. Was made a baronet for his services in the Afghan war of 1839. His father, in his 79th year, retired from the bench in 1825 and is living in Ireland] |
