Detail  [Pages 540-541. In his 89th year. Son of John Adam of Maryburgh, co. Kinross, formerly an architect at Leith (died at Edinburgh 25 June 1792) and his widow died 15 Dec 1795. MP from 1774. Called to the bar in London. In 1790 helped to draw up articles of impeachment against Warren Hastings. In 1802 appointed Counsel to the EIC in place of Mr Rous. Already made Attorney General, Solicitor General to the King. Married at Edinburgh 7 May 1777 the Hon. Eleonora Elphinston, eldest surviving dau. of Charles 10th Lord Elphinston]
